MTD Q2 deadline on 7 November 2026: what to check before you send
A last-minute checklist for your second Making Tax Digital for Income Tax update, with cumulative dates, HMRC connection help and Saturday support.
Published 6 Nov 2026

The second Making Tax Digital for Income Tax update for 2026–27 is due on Saturday 7 November 2026. You can send it on Saturday. If you have already sent it and can see it in your HMRC account or your software's submission history, you're done for this quarter.
Check your dates and totals
- Use the full period shown in your software. For standard quarters, Q2 covers 6 April to 5 October 2026. Your totals include Q1 once, even if you sent Q1 using another provider.
- Review each business separately. In flonancial, choose the business and Q2, upload your spreadsheet and compare the year-to-date totals with your records before sending. For a different period or a business outside our supported scope, use software that supports it.
- Keep the confirmation. If the screen times out or you're unsure what happened, check your submission history or HMRC online account before trying again. See our guide to checking whether HMRC received your update.
HMRC has the full period rules in its quarterly update guidance.
If HMRC says the connection is not authorised
Start in your HMRC online account. Check that Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is active for 2026–27 and that the right business is listed. HMRC may have signed you up already. If you're enrolled, check that you're connecting with the same Government Gateway account, check the National Insurance number in your flonancial settings, then reconnect once. Our step-by-step guide to the authorisation error explains what to do next.
For Saturday 7 November, HMRC says its Self Assessment helpline will be available from 9am to 3pm, with webchat from 8am to 4pm. See HMRC's deadline-day support details.
If you miss the deadline
Send the outstanding update as soon as you can. HMRC will not issue late quarterly update penalty points for 2026–27. The updates are still required, and your Self Assessment return and payment have their own deadlines. See what to do after a missed update.

Why is flonancial free? What's the catch?
There isn't one. Your spreadsheet is parsed in your browser, the file never touches our servers. HMRC's API is free to use. We never see your individual transactions or bank details, we don't sell your information, and we don't show you ads. The mandatory MTD pieces, quarterly updates and the year-end tax return, will always be free.
